barefoot or not

Hey all,
Since there was a topic about if you take your shoes off or not when in your place or visiting others I thought I might take a step farther. Do you like going barefoot or wearing socks, and if given a choice at someone else's place which would you choose?

Post 2 by DevilishAnthony (Just go on and agree with me. You know you want to.) on Tuesday, 02-Feb-2016 23:17:40

I usually like to wear some sandal type shoes that I found at Walmart for pretty cheap. I haven't seen them lately, so I don't know what I'll do when these ware out.

If it is warm I don't mind being barefoot, but in the winter I need something on my feet.
At someone elses house, socks.

Barefoot all the way. I don't care about germs at other people's house.

Team no socks!

I like socks because my feet get cold. However, if it's springtime or summer time, I like flipflops as I usually have cutely painted toes.

No. I'm afraid of being caught in the tentacles of the music_richie beast.

Barefoot, whenever possible. Or slippers if it's too cold. I don't like the feel of socks.

I had a friend once whose family was a bit paranoid about germs, apparently. I visited from out of state, and later rented a room in their house when I moved, and she just about had an attack if I stepped out of my room barefoot. She even bought me a pair of slippers. Geez, I'm a clean person! LOL

These were definitely some peculiar people. They weren't used to having anyone in their house, ever, and it's a wonder they welcomed me, as much as they did. This is off on a bit of a tangent, but it's just reminded me. Since I was moving from another state and intended to get my own place eventually, I brought most of my non-furniture things, including some dishes. Well, I never once ate off of a plate that belonged to this family! They would share their food, but not their dishes, for some reason. They kept everything very separate, which made me feel pretty awkward, let me tell ya. I won't say hurt my feelings, because that's exaggerating what I felt, but something like that. Clearly, they weren't southerners. *smile*

I loved going barefoot until I got diabetes and started getting recurring ulcers on the bottoms of my feet. Now I have to keep the areas that get ulcers covered and clean and dry. So I can no longer go barefoot even around my own home. If I visited someone who insisted that I remove my shoes, I would do so but would keep socks on.

Socks, all the way socks. I can be barefoot, and I'm not afraid of germs, but I just feel more comfortable wearing socks. My wife is the exact opposite.

barefoot. I hate shoes. in the summer it's slides or sandals. no socks.

Also, I fear stepping on bees or some other thing that could cause injury.

Team No Socks here, unless there's someone coming 'round to call, then I'll put socks
on, even if's just the guy who delivers my groceries.

I've thought socks were a waste of time, so never bothered, till now. Since I might have that one disease where my digits, as in fingers and toes and even legs and forearms get really bad circulation, I'm forced to "Knuckle under," and "Bite the bullet," and just put socks on.
I only wear them when I have help getting them on, since my back muscles are really sore.
I never go totally barefoot, cause I'm scared of bugs, and unfamiliar things. Once I was barefoot, and touched a mouse, with my left toes. It scared me till I had nightmares! Ugh! Mice on the floor!
That experience taught me to "Keep my toes covered." LOL
Blessings,
Sarah

barefoot always, everywhere.
i never cover my feet.
if i visit someone and have been walking in mud or snow, i ask them for a basin of water so i can rinse them off before going inside.
at home, if i’ve gotten my feet dirty, i make my way to the nearest sink or the tub to wash them off.
i never have been told that i was unwelcome in someone’s house due to being barefoot. businesses are sometimes a different matter.

There's likely to be glass on the ground, you know. NO bare feet, outside your own backyard, if you're smart.

Post 17 by Smiling Sunshine (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Friday, 05-Feb-2016 15:17:51

Growing up in Texas, I hated going barefoot because of hot sidewalks and stickers in people's yards. By stickers, I mean multipronged plantlife with barbs that stick in one's skin and hurt like a mofo. I don't even like being barefoot in my own yard for that very reason.

Post 18 by VioletBlue (Help me, I'm stuck to my chair!) on Friday, 05-Feb-2016 16:03:17

Ouchy! I grew up in the country, more or less, and it was nothing but stickers, all over! I envied people with nice soft grassy yards. LOL

Yep, I agree, the only good time to be barefoot outside (especially in TX) is when you're about to jump into the pool. Burning hot pavement and cold water! Mm. ... not that we had a pool.

I use to run around barefoot as a kid, but I had lots of sight, so could see what I was about to step on.
Now barefoot in the house, or in a yard. Love the feel of grass on my feet.

Post 20 by rusty81 (Zone BBS is my Life) on Friday, 05-Feb-2016 20:16:29

sandals/sleepers even in my own home. don't want to step on bugs or anything yucky and broken glass or anything sharp specially in the middle of the nite.

Post 21 by Blue Velvet (I've got the platinum golden silver bronze poster award.) on Saturday, 06-Feb-2016 16:44:12

I used to love being barefoot inside and even outside when I was real young, but I remember stepping on a bee and getting stung when I was around six, and ever since then I would usually wear flip flops at the very least. Besides, the bottoms of my feet were always sensitive. I'd be outside playing with friends, and they'd be running all over the place, and I couldn't keep up because the heat, small stones, whatever hurt my feet. So I started wearing shoes even when my friends were barefoot. And now I can't go barefoot because of my diabetes. My feet have become pretty ugly and deformed which I'm sure no one wants to look at, and besides I have to keep them clean and dry due to a tendency to get recurring ulcers. So at least socks.

Post 22 by ADVOCATOR! (Finally getting on board!) on Saturday, 06-Feb-2016 22:15:19

That's what got me wearing shoes. My stepbrother got stung. He stepped on a bee, and it stung him in the butt. He must've just bumped it with a toe, but that's a lesson for life. Hearing him screaming like that... And, after being attacked by several yellow-jackets, I understand, and have screamed like that.
Another thing, is I try keeping my feet out of reach, of someone's claws. Some Siamese brat, that is certain a bare foot="Hey! Lookie! A toy for me????!"
LOL
Blessings,
Sarah

I hardly ever go barefoot.

Post 24 by rat (star trek rules!) on Sunday, 07-Feb-2016 19:17:21

I myself like going barefoot when I can, especially at my own apartment. If i'm visiting people I tend to wear socks, unless they say it's ok not too.

Post 25 by GreenTurtle (Music is life. Love. Vitality.) on Friday, 12-Feb-2016 21:13:21

I always wear socks if I'm at someone's house, or flip flops in the summer. You never know what you'll step on. In my own house I'll go barefoot if it's warm out, but I tend to get cold easily, so during the winter I pretty much always wear socks.

Post 26 by pinkstrawberry (Zone BBS Addict) on Monday, 23-May-2016 23:06:38

If I'm walking on tiled floor I could walk barefoot. Otherwise I like slippers or socks. The last time I wore socks was when I was going to school.

Post 27 by SilverLightning (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Tuesday, 24-May-2016 10:07:05

If I'm inside, no socks. There is just something utterly blissful about a soft
rug, like a fur rug, that you can curl your toes into on a cold morning. If Im'
going outside, shoes, all the way. I used to, when I lived up north, love going
out into the grass with no shoes or socks on. But here we have spiky, angry,
hateful grass, that is not soft and lush, and its not fun to walk on barefoot. Plus
we have sandspurs and cock-a-burrs and fire ants and even snakes. I knew a
guy who was saved from a snake bite because the snake bit his shoe instead of
his foot. And this was on concrete, not even in the woods or anything.

I tend to wear socks all the time, unless I'm in bed or showering or something. To me, it just feels a lot more comfortable.
